“Canada was simply the BEST.  No matter where I will end up, Canada made me to who I am.  My host family are the nicest people and made me feel like a member.  Five months full of great times to look back to, skiing in Whistler as often as possible.  I loved every part of it and am so coming back!  Best decision?  Woodwork!”

"Want some fresh air? Howe Sound can make you fresh. Howe sound Secondary is located in Squamish, about an hour between Vancouver and Whistler. I like here because the environment is beautiful and is near to the world class ski resort Whistler Blackcomb also the shopping center in Vancouver. The entire beautiful snow mountain surrounding during winter. Someone said it's like living in a post card! Squamish is a relaxing, academic place to study. At school, there are a lot of awesome teachers. There are also many different courses to choose to study, like Law, Drama and Band. As well, there are lot of different athletic teams, like the Mountain Bike team and Ski team. And we can make friends from different country! It's a good experience to study here. That's why I like Squamish."

“It was exactly a year ago that we first had contact. Lutz's turn comes to an end in a few weeks. I just want to say Thank you to you and your team because all went so smooth. Howe Sound seems to be the right thing for Lutz. Above that the choice of the home family was excellent. The Desouza family takes good care of Lutz and even more.

All the best and good health in the New Year for you and your team.”

"What to say about my experience...was nice, really fun and a lot of new experience.

When in Canada I really like the people, the Canadian life and the place where I live,(Pemberton near Whistler).  I really love the mountains with the snow and the amazing ski resort. I stay here for just 6 months, but was enough. I had all the time that I need."

"I cannot believe time passes by so fast.  It has been a pleasure attending Howe Sound Secondary School in Squamish over the past three years.  I feel sad to be reaching the end of my exchange experience!  I cannot help picturing myself coming to Canada for the first time with so much wonder and curiosity over three years ago.  The community of Squamish has offered me so much.  Now, every time when I look back, I will be glad that I stayed at “Howe Sound” for it gave me priceless experiences.  Here, I have to thank all the people around me for these awesome three years."

"At Howe Sound Secondary I was able to experience the Canadian life style, and learn not only English, but many lessons about life. The teachers are very good and are always there for whoever needs extra help. The counsellors helped me through my difficult times and guided me, since the school is a lot different than what I am used to. The fact that HSS is in a small town made it easier for me to meet new people and make not only international, but many Canadian friends. Everything works in this school: really good teachers, pleasant environment, a broad selection of courses and a very good location, downtown (great for students who depend on buses and walking!). I had an amazing time in Canada.. Howe Sound Secondary rocks!"

"Do you like biking, hiking, kite surfing, wind surfing, kayaking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, sitskiing,.... ? Not without a reason Squamish is the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada. There are so many things to do here that’s why Squamish is for me and for most of the people about being outside, being in nature. Catching the bus in the early winter and spring mornings, to be able to be one of the first up there to ski or snowboard some of the best powder runs, is so worth it.  Whistler is just an amazing place to ski or snowboard.
Ski Blackcomb in the morning and take the Peak to Peak to Whistler in the afternoon. And on most days I can guarantee you it will be the best thing to do.

But as it becomes warmer and more sunny you might not go up to Whistler that often anymore as there are so many other things to do in Squamish.  Besides the awesome mountain biking, wind surfing and other sports, for me climbing is one of the main reasons why I came to Squamish. It’s just awesome. There is plenty of rock which is just sitting there waiting to be climbed. And the Grand Wall of the Chief just looks amazing, it’s basically outstanding.
But what makes your time in Squamish so memorable are all the people you meet and all the great friends you make.  And of course your hostfamily. All hostfamilies I have met and lived in so far have been really nice and open people.

As the Canadian way of life is more laidback, it’s not that hard to settle into a new family and to find friends at school.  I’m sure that to leave Squamish will be really hard for me as I just love this place so much and I’ll definitely miss it."
